AWARDS & RECOGNITION

HOWARD SCHNELLENBERGER FAMILY AWARD

The Howard Schellenberger Family Award celebrates families who exemplify faith, character, and leadership within the Louisville community, serving as role models both on and off the field.

HOW IT CAME ABOUT: Howard Schnellenberger was both honored and humbled when the idea of an award bearing his name was proposed. It was presented to him as an annual recognition of an outstanding local Catholic athlete. In his classic Coach Schnellenberger voice, he simply asked to speak with his wife, Beverly, before giving his final approval.

He and Beverly were enthusiastic about the idea but requested one change: they asked that it be named the Howard Schnellenberger Family Award- a tribute to the sacrifices his own parents made, and a way to honor Catholic families who have done the same.
